S. Parman and Gatot Subroto are well known for this but I've never really understood it. It must be just for motorbikes because if you drive a car then you have a spare wheel in the boot. Pull over, change wheel, continue on and fix punctured tyre later somewhere else. Who makes money from the nail traps then?

Maybe the police know as they are assisting putting them there?

If they (and everyone else) knows this, why the eff can't they stop it? Why not keep an eye on the tire repairmen?

Oh, wait, I'm being too logical. Silly me!

If anyone does not laugh at this, then I'm afraid you're sick.

This has been going on for ages and all the police can say is to watch out for the favorite spots where it can happen.

Now, I am crying!

Where are you most likely to hit a ‘nail trap’ in Jakarta designed to give you a flat tire? According to the police Traffic Management Center, even though officers regularly remove scattered nails from the following areas, drivers should still be alert when passing through them.

Central Jakarta
Jalan Gatot Subroto from Semanggi to Kuningan intersection
Jalan Majapahit (from Tanah Abang to Harmoni)
Jalan Gatot Subroto from Bank Mandiri to Semanggi (especially nights and weekends)

West Jakarta

Jalan S. Parman (including the Slipi flyover)
Slipi traffic light heading toward Tomang

South Jakarta

Permata Hijau Flyover to Pondok Indah
From William Mobil to Kostrad traffic light
Jalan Prof. Satrio (from Mall Ambassador to Jalan Casablanca)
Casablanca tunnel (in the direction of Mall Ambassador)

East Jakarta

Jalan TB Simatupang (near Lenteng Agung flyover to Pasar Minggu)
From Menara Saidah to Kuningan intersection
Jalan MT Haryono (especially the Pancoran intersection and flyover)

The Traffic Management Center also suggested drivers avoid nail traps by driving slightly more toward the center of the road because the nails are usually scattered on the left side. Sometimes they are hidden in a cigarette box, matchbox or folded newspapers.

Roadside tire repair businesses are believed to scatter the nails in an effort to create more customers. Robbers also scatter nails to stop cars, making them more vulnerable to assault.
