Former antigraft czar Haryono Umar has been appointed inspector general at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Haryono, who was a former deputy chairman at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), confirmed that he had taken up the post and would begin his new duties on Monday.

However, he said he had not received any official notification that he had been appointed to the post, adding that his appointment should have been accompanied by a presidential decree.

Haryono, who stepped down from his post at the KPK on Dec. 17, said he would continue to fight corruption in his new capacity in coordination with law enforcement officials and with the KPK, who will also work on the cases.

Antigraft watchdogs point to embezzlement of the school operational funds (BOS) as one of the largest forms of corruption in the ministry.
