Tokyo. Korean international Lee Jung-soo scored the winner as defending champion Kashima Antlers beat Kawasaki Frontale 2-1 to knock Shimizu S-Pulse off the top of the J-League on Saturday.

The 30-year-old defender met Takuya Nozawa’s corner with a firm header in the 78th minute to give Kashima a 2-1 lead that it held until the final whistle.

Earlier, Brazilian midfielder Fellype Gabriel opened the scoring for Kashima when he pounced on a poor clearance by Kawasaki midfielder Junichi Inamoto in the 21st minute.

Kawasaki drew level in the 39th minute with a left foot strike from forward Masaru Kurotsu before being reduced to 10 men.

Kashima has eight wins, three draws and two defeats for 27 points, one point ahead of Shimizu S-Pulse, who was held to a goalless draw by Jubilo Iwata, followed by Nagoya Grampus on 25 points, Kawasaki on 21 points, and Cerezo Osaka and Urawa Red Diamonds on 20 points.

Japan’s World Cup hero yasuhito Endo scored an injury time winner to give Gamba Osaka a 3-2 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds on Sunday.

Urawa had pulled it back to 2-2 when striker Edmilson headed home from a corner two minutes into four minutes of injury time.

“We have the strong will to win, that’s why we won today,” Endo, 30, said after the match. “We believe we still have a chance to win the title, so we will keep fighting for it.”

Earlier Edmilson opened the scoring in the 18th minute, but Takashi Usami levelled just before halftime.

Osaka’s second goal came from an own goal by Urawa defender Nobuhisa Yamada in the 64th minute.

Osaka have 18 points from four wins, six draws and three defeats, nine points behind league-leading Kashima.
