Striker Talaouh Abdul Musyafri’s missing scoring touch returned with a vengeance on Wednesday. It’s just a pity no one was there to see it.

Musyafri, who has struggled to find the back of the net all season, scored a hat-trick to lead Persija Jakarta to a 3-0 victory over Persitara North Jakarta at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

The national team standout came to Persija during the offseason after a stellar campaign at Persib Balikpapan that saw him finish in the top three in goal scoring.

Adjusting to his new club, however, has been difficult and Musyafri saw his offense virtually disappear. After 12 matches with the Kemayoran Tigers, the 27-year-old was without a goal.

That changed on Wednesday in a match played in an empty stadium after the Jakarta Police refused to issue a match permit if supporters of either club — known for having a violent history with each another — attended the game.

“I dedicate those goals to Persija’s fans, Jakmania, who have been supporting me this season,” Musyafri said. “I know I’ve been going through this adjustment process for some time, but I guess I’ve settled in.”

Musyafri didn’t waste any time making his presence felt in Wednesday’s Jakarta derby, scoring his first goal of the season on Ismed Sofyan’s cross in the eighth minute.

Persitara almost knotted the score four minutes later, but Nigerian striker Prince Kabir Bello’s header fell straight into the arms of Persija goalkeeper Muhamad Yasir.

Musyafri put Persija up 2-0 in the 28th, after converting an assist from Aliyudin. He cashed in on another good pass after halftime, this time from Bambang, Persija’s leading scorer, to complete his hat-trick.

Persija technical director Benny Dollo said he had being stuying Persitara since the weekend. “We learned how to play Persitara during its victory over Pelita Jaya last Saturday,” said Benny, whose club picked up its fourth win of the season and moved out of the relegation zone and into 14th place with 18 points. “What we did was we pushed Musyafri forward to keep the defense guessing.”

Persitara manager Harry Ruswanto said that off-field issues were continuing to affect his team, which remained 17th in the standings with 11 points.

“The players showed their best. In this loss, I take full responsibility,” he said. “I know my players have had problems with their salaries for months. We will just have to pay them to get them motivated.”

In Makassar, South Sulawesi, defending champion Persipura Jayapura defeated Persijap Jepara 1-0 to move into the top 5.

Defender Ricardo Salampessy scored the winner in the 49th to give the Black Pearls 22 points. Persijap stayed in 13th.

On Tuesday night, Bontang FC beat Sriwijaya FC 3-1 in East Kalimantan. Japanese striker Kenji Adachihara, Cornelis Geddy and Ali Khaddafy all found the back of the net for Bontang, while Arif Suyono pulled one back for the visitors. ISL
