@bawel, I was at murphy's for the fundrasier the other night. I was a well attended night with a good mix of decent people, with the sole focus to help a sick little girl who other wise would be let to die in some local hospital with zero facilities. FYI, a local band provided the entertainment on the night with a female guest singer, who actually sang a gun's n roses (usa rock band) song whilst wearing jilbab. Open your mind mate, its not black an white despite what you believe. Remember a little girls life will be hopefully changed in a positive way.

Well done Murphy's.

I can't recall the event being publicised in the Globe.

It's a shame but nearly any event in Jakarta seems to only become news after the fact.

Anyway, seems like it was a great success anyway.

Again, well done.

@bawel

So let the “barbaric” ideology competes freely with the “modern and civilized value” and see who is the winner in the end.

I know where I'm putting my money ha ha.

Bawel, fine to debate but never think that drunks will make a downfall of western society as its been around over 10,000 years to which in russia 80% are addicted to it. To be honest i do lots of buisness deals and would never do any deal with someone who does not drink. Its been said never trust someone who does not drink.

If you wish to make it in this world then you better learn to drink soon. You may wish to take your chance in the afterlife but who are you to know what God will think of you when you greethim? He may say where is his beer.

sure bawel I agree with you on the social problems caused by religiously-induced-alcoholism, very serious problem indeed. The druggy-effect on the radical followers like you can be obviously seen with preference for gang-raping others. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! I notice you have tendencies to quote from Dawkins (delusioned ignorant idiot), you must love his ideas very much. One bizarre hybrid you got there.

As for mosque, I never mentioned "mosque" or "Imam" at all. You should read before bawel out.

A bar in Kemang, South Jakarta, is hoping the Rp 150 million ($16,650) it raised on Tuesday night is enough to pay for the operation an underprivileged girl needs to save her life.

Two-year-old Meisya, known as Memey, has been diagnosed with typhoid, a brain infection and four other complications. She needs special treatment at a private hospital in Jakarta.

But her father Do’i, 32, who sells satay in the Puncak resort area of West Java and has to use a large part of his income to buy food and pay his family’s Rp 255,000-a-month rent, can only afford to send Memey to Ciawi State Hospital in Bogor.

Memey has been at Ciawi for three months, but the facilities there are not equipped to give her the treatment she needs.

That’s why Killian Murphy, who owns Murphy’s Irish Pub, decided to hold a charity night at his pub on Tuesday.

“A friend of ours knows Memey’s family, and my wife visited them,” he said on Tuesday. “We decided to try and spread the message to people by conducting the charity night.

Speaking on Wednesday, Murphy told the Jakarta Globe that between 150 and 200 people attended the event.

He said the auction raised Rp 50 million, which combined with ticket sales and donations now totalled Rp 150 million.

Killian said they were contacting hospitals today to see if the money raised would be enough to cover the cost of the operation.

“It was truly fantastic to have so many people supporting us and Memey. They were extremely generous and it is heartwarming to see all these people contributing.”

Memey’s stay at Ciawi Hospital so far has been covered by a health insurance scheme for the poor. What she needs to live, though, is not covered.

“If she can’t get some proper treatment at Harapan Kita soon, I don’t think it would be good for her condition,” Murphy said on Tuesday. “It would be best for her to get the treatment sometime this week.”

“My heart is touched,” Do’i said on Tuesday. “I still can’t believe this is happening. It feels like I’m dreaming.

“I hope one day I can do something to repay these people for what they’re doing for me and my family.”
