A 13-year-old boy who stabbed his friend eight times after stealing his cell phone was sentenced to three years in a juvenile detention center by the Depok District Court, in West Java, on Tuesday.
“[We] sentenced him to three years in Bambu Apus juvenile detention center in
East Jakarta. The defendant will be subject to counseling and his
parents will be allowed to pay him visits,” Chief Judge Wahyu Widia said
as he read out the verdict.
“Next month the defendant will be allowed to take part in the National Exam for elementary school students,” he added.
The sentence was higher than the one year demanded by prosecutors.
Both the convict, identified only as “A.”, and his 40-year-old mother told the panel of judges that they accepted the sentencing.
A. stabbed his friend S.M. eight times on Feb. 17 after S.M. asked A. to return a cell phone that A. stole from his friend and sold.
S.M. was treated at Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta for stab wounds.
