for someone who is threatening the security of our nation and is participating in one of the worlds top terrorist group, an 8 or 12 year sentence is not enough. he should be put to jail for life. why is it that drug dealers are executed but guys like these aren't? they are the ones plotting ways to kill foreigners, in the name of Allah. which is against muslim teaching. whom ever is in charge of the indonesian legal system should really put more thought into the length of the sentences on terrorist. and he assassinates moderate muslim leaders too?? so he wants this country to be run by extremists (like the taliban)? how will Indonesia ever develop if its run by hard core muslims that doesn't even appreciate the value of human life and human rights. yes, the taliban did provide afghanistan with political stability and that might happen in indonesia too but, it will give indonesia an economic setback. putting him in prison will incentivize his followers to transform more people to his way of thinking. out of curiosity, how come they were able to capture one one out of 120 alleged al qaeda members? i don't think indonesia is trying hard enough...

Unfortunately putting him in prison for a few years will just permit him to teach and convert others to his warped way of thinking

One of Indonesia’s top terrorists, Abu Tholut, was sentenced to eight years in jail for helping establish a jihadist camp for a group that plotted attacks on foreigners and assassinations of the country’s moderate Muslims leaders.

The sentence was well below the prosecutions demands for a 12-year term.

Arrested late last year, Abu, 51, was one of more than 120 alleged members of the “Tanzim Al Qaeda in Aceh” group to have been captured or killed since the camp in westernmost Aceh province was raided.

Presiding Judge Musa Arif Aini said Abu was involved in training and undertaking surveys with Dulmatin, who had a hand in the Bali bombings.

He was also found to have helped supply some of the weapons used by the group.

Tholut became one of Indonesia’s most-wanted fugitives after master bomb-makers Noordin Top and Dulmatin were killed in police raids last year.
