Graft suspect Anggodo Widjojo is scheduled to be indicted for attempted bribery and obstruction of justice when he appears in the Anti-Corruption Court in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
The controversial businessman was expected to be indicted last week but Anggodo failed to appear in court because of what his defense said was a severe migraine.
The hearing will start at 1 p.m., one of Anggodo’s 12 lawyers, Bonaran Situmeang, told Metro TV.
his client is ready for the hearing and all members of the 12-lawyer team will be present at court.
Last week, Bonaran said a postponement of the legal proceedings against Anggodo had been requested because the Attorney General’s Office was still contesting a ruling by the South Jakarta District Court to go forward with the prosecution of two KPK deputy chairmen, Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah, who were initially named as suspects in the case.
“We are requesting the Supreme Court order the Anti-Corruption Court to stop hearing the case until such time as there is a binding decision on the prosecutors’ move to stop the case against Bibit and Chandra,” he said.
The AGO has appealed the South Jakarta District Court’s decision to the Jakarta High Court.
The KPK deputies were controversially accused of abuse of power and of extorting Rp 6 billion ($666,000) from Anggodo in exchange for halting an investigation of his brother, Anggoro Widjojo, a graft fugitive believed to be in Singapore or China.
The case against the deputies prompted public outrage last year when recordings of phone conversations between Anggodo and law-enforcement officials, in which they allegedly plotted to bring down Bibit and Chandra, were played at the Constitutional Court.
