In the latest case of sex abuse by public minivan drivers, two angkot drivers in Jakarta were arrested for allegedly selling three female street performers into prostitution.

Three girls — identified only as N.O., 15; D., 16; and R., 16 — were picked up by an angkot on Feb. 6 on their way to perform at the Kampung Melayu bus terminal in East Jakarta, N.O.’s lawyer Zamzamir said on Monday.

The M01 angkot, serving the Senen-Kampung Melayu route, was being driven by Ucok and Wawan, who offered to get the girls jobs in the Kalibata area of South Jakarta.

Instead, they took the girls to the Mawar 66 cafe in the red-light district of Kalijodo, North Jakarta, Zamzamir said.

“Once there, they [the girls] were ordered to have sex with paying clients,” the lawyer said.

He said N.O. was held there for eight days and forced to have sex twice with older men.

“Ucok and Wawan each got Rp 250,000 [$28] for each of the girls that they brought there, so they made Rp 750,000 each,” he said.

He said D. and R. eventually ran off with their boyfriends, while N.O. was picked up by her mother, Agustin, on Feb. 13.

Agustin, who went to file a criminal complaint with the police, said she learned of her daughter’s whereabouts from one of the girls who escaped.

“When I went there, Ucok and Wawan demanded that I pay them Rp 200,000 and give them a cell phone before they would let me have my daughter back,” the mother said.

Agustin added that after securing her daughter’s release, she reported the case to the North Jakarta Police but was told to instead go to the provincial police headquarters.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said his office was treating the case seriously.

This is the latest alleged case of sex abuse linked to angkot drivers in the Greater Jakarta area in recent months.

Other angkot drivers have been implicated in at least three cases of rape and one murder since late August.
