Complete set-up. This attack was called "unprovoked" by one of the family. Please make that clearer in your article - also that the bouncers claim that they were hit first, which I believe.

this incident would definitely bolster efforts by a number of Australians to boycott Bali. but then again the move will be counterproductive,as it's not government sanctioned&will deprive people there of a place for a cheap vacation.after all, particularly for a substantial number of Australians who go to places like bounty, Bali truly is the island of the (white trash) gods..

Orangjkt, granted that the other side of the story is as you say it is, is violence the better option? If, indeed, this family was unruly, couldn't they have just been hauled to jail? And to hit women at that? Oh, I forget, we do it to our fellow Indonesians anyway: the Amahdis, the Christians, the ... who's next?

You must look at the 2 sides of story...that large group of family got drunk that night behaving like wild animals disturbing other guest and waitress of the club, they kept shouting at the club and when the security guards ask them to leave they kept ignoring and abusing the guards in derogatory language continuously..balinese people are very polite and nice, unfortunately some bule take advantage, thinking they can do anything in bali...those type of family and other rude low class backpacker bule tourist should be banned from bali...they deserved to be taught a lesson and jailed.

Bali Police have arrested three security guards from Bali’s notorious Bounty Discotheque for the alleged beating of an Australian family, a report said on Tuesday.

An unidentified Kuta Police officer told the heraldsun.com.au that three people had been detained for two days.

Former North Melbourne AFL coach Dean Laidley was quoted as alleging the “horrifying” incident was most likely a “targeted attack.”

“Laidley was hit over the head with a bottle by security staff and has stitches, his son Kane has a broken jaw, and several other family members have severe facial injuries, including women,” the news portal reported.

He said another family member was held under a pond in front of the bar and “almost drowned.”

Laidley said police had told him that the unprovoked attack by 10 bouncers on 12 family members was “a setup.”

“Things like this happen a hell of a lot [in Bali]. Probably not to this degree but we just found it really strange as a family that the only people who have been hurt in the whole incident were members of our party,” he was quoted as saying.

Bali International Medical Center spokeswoman Tasya Aulia criticized the bouncers.

“It happens a lot over here that tourists get beaten up by security, and other tourists as well,” she was quoted as saying.

A number of staff from the same bar were involved in a barroom brawl that led to the death of 22-year-old Sean Headifen, a tourist from New Zealand, in 2009.
