"It’s also racist as he previously released a press statement accusing MMI and FPI of intimidating minority groups"

Exactly which race is being discriminated against and in what way?

And that isn't an accusation, it's a fact...

We can't depend on the government to protect us. It is time for us to take up arms and organize our own revolution. Yes, blood will be shed but this is the only way to get the government to act.

If they do not process our report we will hunt them down? Brave enough to threaten the police. These groups are getting braver everyday but with cowards running the government who can blame them.

Prominent artist Bramantyo Prijosusilo was attacked by a militant group during a theatrical performance in Yogyakarta aimed at protesting religious violence.

Members of the Indonesian Mujahideen Council (MMI) assaulted Bramantyo in front of the group’s office in Kota Gede on Wednesday as he prepared to recite a poem he wrote.

Bramantyo said so many MMI members threw punches at him that he was at risk of serious injury. The police, however, intervened, grabbing him out of the scuffle and taking him to their truck.

“It was so fast,” Bramantyo said. “Before I had a chance to speak they pulled me to their office. Fortunately, the police stopped them.”

The poem, Bramantyo said, describes the increasing violence being perpetuated by Indonesian militant groups.

Asked why he chose the street in front of MMI’s office as his theater, he said the organization was one of those he wanted to single out. “People feel uncomfortable with what they have done,” he said.

MMI deputy chairman Syobarin Syukur said Bramantyo’s performance tried to unfairly discredit his organization.

“For us, this not an art but politicization of art. It’s also racist as he previously released a press statement accusing MMI and FPI of intimidating minority groups,” he said, referring also to the Islamic Defenders Front.

When police tried to mediate between the artist and MMI later, Syobarin said an apology from Bramantyo was not enough.

“We will report Bramantyo for religious contempt, and if the authorities do not process [our report] then we will hunt him down,” he said.

Bramantyo, on the other hand, said he would not file a police report over the attack. He also apologized to the community if they were disturbed by what had happened.
