I simply don't understand how people can justify holding onto wealth in the face of blatantly inescapable poverty. How much money can one spend on 'things'? I have not read or head any reports of Bakrie paying out hundreds of millions of dollars in connection with the Sidoarjo Mud Flow disaster within the last year, and hence I have to believe that the apparent financial reverses suffered in the last year by Bakrie are attributable to other factors.

Never trust Bakrie. It's good news for his presidential bid. He's making sure that he's not going to look too rich.

Bakries have quietly paid out hundreds of millions of dollars in ex gratia payments for LUSI, so that might explain part of the fall in fortunes...
