Boediono to Meet With Philanthropist George Soros
Vice President Boediono would receive a visit from George Soros, the founder and chairman of the Open Society Institute at the Vice Presidential Palace on Wednesday.
“The visit is the start of his other planned visits to Indonesia this year,” Boediono’s spokesman, Yopie Hidayat, told Metro TV.
Yopie said that no special discussions would be held during the meeting.
“It’s only a courtesy call, no special agenda,” he said.
Soros is a Hungarian-American currency speculator, stock investor, businessman, philanthropist, and political activist. In 1982, he became famous after gaining $1.2 billion in pound sterling exchange transactions and was nicknamed “the man who broke the pound.”
In 1997, then Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad accused Soros of being the man who triggered the financial crisis in Asia.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was also expecting an important guest. He would meet with US Pacific Command Admiral Robert F. Willard at the State Palace on Wednesday afternoon.
