in order to forward steadily and surely fights against corruption to its roots especially in Indonesia, the sentence by courts must be severely harsh in relation to the longer prison term and big sum penalty. All related law enforcement agency must sign pledge that whoever its member proven guilty of corruption will be sentence more severely. The accused who is trying to bribe will also face the law in very severe mode.

...Meanwhile, Suripto said he felt hurt and was “caught off-guard” by Sistoyo’s actions.

Hmm, what a great surprise that Judge Suprito couldn't come up with a more convincing comment, given all of the apparent circumstances.

The top prosecutor in Cibinong, West Java, is likely to lose his job after one of his underlings was caught red-handed having his palms greased on office grounds, an official said on Tuesday.

“Superiors are responsible for their juniors. The sanction is possibly that [Suripto Widodo] will be dismissed from the leadership position,” said Marwan Effendy, the deputy attorney general for internal supervision.

Sistoyo, a prosecutor at the Cibinong District Prosecutor’s Office, was arrested in the yard of his office on Monday as almost Rp 100 million ($11,000) from a businessman was being handed to him. Investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), which made the arrest, said the bribe was linked to a case Sistoyo was handling.

“I got information that what was promised in this case was not just Rp 100 million. In other words, this was only the down payment,” Marwan said.

He added that a total of Rp 2.5 billion had been pledged, but that it was still unclear whether there would be other recipients beside Sistoyo.

“If the Rp 2.5 billion was for this prosecutor alone, it would be a really big sum. Possibly the superior knew, and this is what the head of the Attorney General’s Office’s general crime department will check,” Marwan said.

He also said that the Attorney General has ordered that Sistoyo be suspended as soon as he is formally declared a suspect.

Sistoyo’s case is the third since 2008 where a prosecutor has been caught red-handed receiving bribes or committing extortion.

AGO prosecutor Urip Tri Gunawan, who was handling a case of liquidity assistance for ailing banks, was caught with $660,000 in cash after meeting with Artalyta Suryani, a businesswoman close to one of the suspects in the case, in 2008. He was sentenced to 20 years in jail.

In February, prosecutor Dwi Seno Wijanarko was arrested in Serpong, Tangerang, with Rp 50 million he had extorted from an employee of a bank under investigation for alleged irregularities. He was jailed for 18 months.

Meanwhile, Suripto said he felt hurt and was “caught off-guard” by Sistoyo’s actions.

He confirmed that Sistoyo was handling a case of fraud in which a certain E.B. was a suspect. The Rp 100 million given to Sistoyo is said to have come from E.B. “But we do not know whether the bribe was meant to keep the sentencing demand low. Let us all wait for the KPK investigation,” the Cibinong top prosecutor said.

E.B. is said to have defrauded another businessman, R.T.W., of Rp 5.6 billion related to a project for a shopping area in Cisarua, near Cibinong.

Sistoyo had repeatedly postponed his sentencing demand, and had been due to finally make the recommendation on Tuesday. Another prosecutor in the case, Epiyarti, is also being questioned by the KPK.
