370865i don't think this was the 1st time this happened in that workplace (the expats insulting the locals). maybe the workers had to deal with insults on a daily basis (or close to it), & this one last remark just drew them over the edge.
This type of disrespectful behavior in the workplace no matter what nationality or race would not fly that easily in a Western work place covered by a fair Western labor law. Therefore why would it be any difference in Indonesia except that the emotions here run high above than the rational thinking...and furthermore local labor law probably does not really emphasize discrimination in the work place...Well it is time to do so.
It was a very sad events, I am not an Indonesian nor an Indian,
this is everybodys loss, but for my point of view it is a great loss for
the Indonesians. I do not tolerate what was said by One of the Indian Nationals. It Is WRONG. But in this case of event there are venues that we can post the grievance of the Indonesians, I know this is dis respect for all Indonesians and the fact they are in their own land.
Now, we look forward, whatøs will be the effect, this will scare some companies to stage their project in Batams, projects that keeps Indonesian from having jobs and having salary providing for their families. What I think, a statement made of one person does not represent all of his colleague. It is just one person
this issue of insulting the Indonesian may be filed in court so he can be banned from entering Indonesia, this is a great loss for everybody
thousand of people may be jobless after this, cause the event causes
not only inccur damage to people, properties, but for the country for having a reputable identity for being a safe place to work with. i donøt condemn what was the re action of the Indonesians, the Indonesians reacted upon their emotional instinct, but inserting patriotism, I don't think so. Let us think first, before we do something, If that one Indian
national has spoken insulting Indonesian, or any Race Let us not give him the right to prove himself correct. We just justify what he said
and that is the sad part.
agoz - you said it!
I am sure India can bring 1 million people in Mumbai and trash the Indonesian ambassy if they want.
Reports are emerging of violence directed against Indian nationals employed by PT Drydock World Graha in Batam, Riau Islands province.
State news agency Antara is reporting that 41 Indian workers employed by the company were escorted by 400 police, including the armed Mobile Brigade (Brimob), from the company premises after they were attacked by local workers.
At least four of the workers were injured and about 20 vehicles set alight, Antara reported. The offices have also been trashed,.
One worker was quoted by Antara as alleging that the unrest was triggered after an Indian national said “Indonesian people were stupid.”
“This is national pride, so we are all angry,” the local, identified as Baim, said.
About 10,000 Indonesians were observed crowding the company premises singing “Great Indonesia” and other patriotic songs, Antara reported.
The National Maritime Institute (Namarin) said the recent violence at Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta was likely to raise shipping insurance costs, and its “international reputation as an export and import gate will plummet.”
The Joint War Committee, a London organization that analyzes shipping risks, had listed maritime regions in Indonesia as “war risk zones” that might pose dangers to domestic or international ships.
