State Secretary Hatta Rajasa and Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi had to call some ministerial candidates several times to convince them they were really being appointed to the cabinet, Hatta told reporters on Wednesday.
“One said, is it really Pak Hatta Rajasa or is it only a prank?” Hatta said, as quoted by detik.com.
One female candidate thought Hatta wanted to speak to her husband. Another said he did not know he was going to be offered a ministerial post because he had been eyeing the rectorate at Lambung Mangkurat University in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
Instead, "he was offered something extraordinary,” said Hatta.
“And who called Pak Hatta? Did you just get a whisper from the president?” asked a reporter.
“I am the State Secretary so I did not need any messenger to tell it to myself,” Hatta answered.
