A cargo plane piloted by an Australian and co-piloted by a Slovak crashed in a mountainous area in Indonesia’s remote Papua province on Friday, a Transportation Ministry spokesman said.

The plane, a Cessna Grand Caravan which belonged to local airline Susi Air, was carrying diesel and rice, ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan told Reuters.

“We spotted the plane from the air but we couldn’t come near it because it was too dark, so we don’t know whether the pilot and co-pilot survived,” he said.
