A couple in Magelang, Central Java accused a hospital of negligence.
Atun gave birth at the Magelang General Hospital on May 20, where doctors told her and her husband, Muhammad Afid, that they had a baby boy, SCTV reported on Thursday.
The baby's sex was also written on the hospital certificate. However, when they took the baby home they found out that it was actually a girl.
Atun and Afid returned to the hospital to protest and return the baby, demanding that the hospital give them their baby boy.
The hospital's director, Sasongko, denied that a mix-up had occurred. He said the hospital had mistakenly jotted down the baby's sex as a boy while, in fact, it was a girl. The hospital offered to conduct a DNA test to assure Atun and Afid that the baby girl is their biological child.
The couple is still considering the option, but in the meantime they are willing to take care of the baby.
