Police in Indonesia are still waiting to question the driver of a bus involved in a deadly crash that claimed 12 lives and injured at least others.
Adj. Comr. Arman Achdiat, chief of the Sumedang Police in West Java, told the Jakarta Globe on Friday that the driver remained in a serious condition in hospital and doctors were yet to give their permission for the questioning to take place.
He said police remained unsure as to why the bus drove off the road and fell into a ravine, though several witnesses said it appeared the vehicle’s brakes had malfunctioned.
State-owned insurance company Jasa Raharja will pay Rp 25 million ($2,775) to the families of the deceased and a maximum Rp 10 million toward the hospital costs of the injured, Antara reported.
