A convicted narcotics manufacturer jailed for seven years in 2009 has been rearrested for allegedly committing the same crime.
The Judicial Commission (KY) has launched an investigation into how Faruk Mustafa, 38, was paroled before he was rearrested by National Police at his home in the Kintamani housing complex, Kalideres, West Jakarta, last week.
KY spokesman Asep said Faruk had been jailed in 2009 for seven years for production of crystal methamphetamine and then granted parole for medical reasons.
The case file had been reopened, he said.
Faruk’s lawyer, Feri Juan, said his client was innocent, claiming the drug-making equipment found in his home related to his 2009 arrest.
“My client said the material [police confiscated] was leftover from the 2009 raid and there was no methamphetamine found,” Feri said.
He said his clients could not be charged for the same offense twice.
Feri said that ephedrine found in Faruk’s home was not necessarily for making methamphetamine.
“Maybe he kept it to make asthma drugs,” Feri said.
