The graves of Indonesian victims of the 1947 massacre by Dutch military troops are seen at Rawagede monument of independence in the town of Rawagede, West Java province. A Dutch court ruled on September 15 that the Netherlands was responsible for executions in the town of Rawagede, east of Jakarta, and that their families should be compensated. Once again you refer to events that Indonesia as the colonial oppressor had coming to it - just like the Dutch here and the British in Malaysia - I have no sympathy for oppressors of any ilk - nations, govts, religions - anyone
No body is blaming the Indonesians for everything - BUT on the other hand THEY committed (and still do) an awful lot of violent atrocities as part of their colonisation of the islands and internal violence for power. That is a fact.
Re ET - The Dutch also built canals, roads, rail, schools, hospitals, universities etc all across Indonesia BUT that does not mean it was right to colonise and oppress - No more that Indonesian colonial violence was/is right
Re the Westerling campaign - Even the highest sources place 30,000 dead - others say 3,000. In 1965/6 In the PKI violence Indonesia killed anywhere between 500,000 to 1 million (mainly innocents) how about an apology to my family for that since we lost 5 members?
I am truly sorry for you and your family - and I would hope in the fullness of time some ET apologise
Forgiver? Indonesians never ask NL for apology or reparations - I think you are 100% wrong on both counts
ET apology? Well since Indonesia was the colonial oppressor I guess Indonesia will need to apologise first but then I would hope they too apologise - If we use this formula Indonesia will make significant reparations to ET... oh a flying pig!!
PS - The Japanese also made apologies and massive reparations alongside the Dutch post WW2.
As for taking sides - I actually could not give a flying toss about that. All I said was with this act perhaps Indonesia will follow suit and make apologies to the millions of deaths it has caused via its own internal violence which is an observation and not a side.
Come on Tadpole I am waiting for PART 2
PART 2: Oh, yeah, this is not about hatred, but just to show u another side of the case. You better find another textbook of human rights or other sources which can provide you different views.
as Indonesian, I have to admit that our Government did lot of mistakes but that does not mean that everyone can fingerpointing Indonesian government for all the blame. FYI, (this might not be found on sources that u read, DrDez) the Indonesian government built roads, hospitals, schools and everything that East Timor people need when they are with us. Well, it's all means nothing now but it's worth telling for a kind like u, DrDez for these might be another fact that u might never heard?uh?
FYI, as well, the Dutch should also render their apology for the Westerling Massacre. Do you ever heard about this? change ur textbook if you're never heard of it.
PART 1: yeah, I got you, esp. you DrDez. I really know when I put this kind of comment, a kind like you, DrDez, will show up take (as always) side thus disregard a balance look upon the case at hand.
FYI, my parents were among those were forced and killed by militia of east timorese, supported by Fretilin. For allt his years, I learnt something that Indonesians are forgiver.
Why? Indonesians never ask the Kingdom of Netherlands to render their apology for all the cruelty they done for more than three centuries ofcolonialisation nor do they ask the same apology from East Timor government upon what their militias had done to pro-integration.

Yes sadly the hate is as great as ever -
The Hague. The Dutch government will pay compensation and apologize to relatives of men killed by Dutch troops in a notorious 1947 massacre of villagers during Indonesia's bitter struggle for independence, their lawyer said Monday.
Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal said that the apology "does justice to the gravity of what happened in Rawagede," the village on Java island where up to 430 men were rounded up and summarily executed.
"I hope it helps the relatives find closure for this exceptionally difficult episode in their lives and look to the future," Rosenthal said.
The Dutch ambassador to Indonesia, Tjeerd de Zwaan, will offer the apology during the annual commemoration of the massacre in the village, now called Balongsari, on Dec. 9.
Nine relatives of men shot in the massacre won a landmark court case earlier this year, when judges ruled that the Dutch state was responsible for the massacre.
The relatives' lawyer, Liesbeth Zegveld, says they are pleased with the Dutch apology. She added that the state also will pay each of the nine relatives €20,000 ($27,000) compensation.
"It is good that the relatives can now close the case," she said. "It happened 64 years ago and there was a tough ruling from the court necessary, but the relatives are very grateful that the state is not going to appeal and will apologize."
The Dutch government has never prosecuted any soldiers for the massacre, despite a United Nations report condemning the attack as "deliberate and ruthless" as early as 1948.
A 1968 Dutch report acknowledged "violent excesses" in Indonesia but argued that Dutch troops were carrying out a "police action" often incited by guerrilla warfare and terror attacks.
Former Foreign Minister Ben Bot expressed deep regret for offenses by Dutch forces throughout Indonesia in 1947, but the government has never before formally apologized to relatives in Rawagede.
It remains to be seen if the Rawagede ruling will open the floodgates for more compensation claims from relatives of people killed during the fight to retain control over the Dutch East Indies, which became Indonesia in 1949.
The September ruling had a very narrow focus, saying widows of men killed deserved compensation because they suffered directly from the slaying.
