The growing popularity of Facebook is fueling infedelity and marital problems among civil servants, an official in Sampang, Madura said on Friday.
“The number of divorces has increased among civil officers in Sampang since more people in Sampang start using Facebook,” district education office spokesperson Zamyadi told Metro TV.
A number of teachers at state schools in Sampang have been reported to the education office for having sexual relationships with each other, he added.
“According to the reports we have received, the affairs involve not only single teachers but also married ones. Some have even become pregnant,” said Zamyadi.
He said everyone found to be involved in extramarital affairs would receive administrative sanctions.
In 2008, a sex video of two teachers from a government junior high school in Pamekasan, Madura, was leaked to the public. In late 2009, the same thing happened to a pair of Bangkalan civil officers.
