Absent students and accusations of cheating marred the first day of Indonesia’s national student exams.
Metro TV reported that students at a senior high in South Sulawesi had cheated and proctors had taken no action to stop them.
In Majene, West Sulawesi dozens of students did not show up for exams. The local exam committee said the students did not give any reason for their absence. At SMK 2 vocational school, some 25 students were reportedly absent.
“The school received no notifications from them. The consequence is they will not pass,” said the principal of the school, Johan.
Students who are forced to miss the exams because of illness can take them in May along with students who failed on their first attempt.
In Pamekasan, East Java a student at MAN 2 Islamic senior high fainted during the test, apparently due to stress. She finished the exam at the school clinic, watched by two proctors.
