After a thorough examination of all the evidence, and data in the ship's computer, Vulcan Logic dictates that it would not be wise to crack down on cheating so hard if a similar situation was to occur again, Captain.

Agreed Mr. Tuvok.

People concerned with Education in this country are in denial. If Fauzi Bowo doesn't know what is wrong with the education in Junior High Schools then he is obviously completely out of touch with reality. I am tired of listening to this kind of pompous jargon, "We need to study everything comprehensively and all stake holders must be evaluated totally,” he said. “Jakarta must have high competitiveness and be at the forefront of other provinces.” Big deal! If he and his 'experts' don't know what the problem is then they need to go back to school themselves, because it aint rocket science.

I'll tell him why 3 out of 10 kids failed. (Only 3 out of 10? I bet more should have because of the cheating.)

Today I walked into a classroom and said to the kids, "Where is your teacher?" They replied, "We don't know." So they sat there doing nothing, just fooling around. One classroom? I could have walked in to at least 8 and got the same response.

At any given time in the school I teach in you can be sure that most of the classes simply do not have a teacher in them and the students are left to wander around the school are fool around outside. Day in day out. Week in week out. They aren't properly educated because they are not getting any kind of education in the first place.

I wont even begin to describe the facilities - or lack of them in this so called 'school'. They and the lack of them are a disgrace.

With respect, Fauzi Bowo, you and your educational experts need to face reality. Education in this place is in bad shape, simply because it is not happening. I am more than happy to come and fill you in on the details and the reasons. Do you want to hear them?

It's been said that education is system of imposed ignorance, a judgement I thought a trifle harsh until I came to this country.

Three out of 10 junior high school students in Jakarta flunked the national examinations, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said on Thursday.

Speaking at State High School 77 (SMAN 77) in Cempaka Putih, Fauzi said the quality of education in Jakarta was in a “bad condition.”

“I am concerned and unhappy with the results,” he said.

He said that the 28.97 percent of junior high school students that failed the test would get a chance to resit the examinations on March 29, and if they flunked those, on May 17.

“We need to study everything comprehensively and all stake holders must be evaluated totally,” he said. “Jakarta must have high competitiveness and be at the forefront of other provinces.”

The Ministry of National Education is yet to announce the official results or the national average.

The city administration allocated 23.9 percent of its total Rp 24.67 trillion regional budget on Education. Of senior high school students sitting the national examination, just 91 percent passed, compared to Bali province where 97 percent passed.

Bowo said the thorough evaluation was needed to determine how so many students failed despite the large budget.

“We hope that soon we will have the evaluation results for input and improvements in the future,” he said.
