It's ironic that people are still using bamboo bridge to cross a river. What year are we now? 1945?? the local government needs to pay attention to things like this. If a bridge or any public infrastructure is broken or damage, immediate action needs to be done to fix it or rebuild it.

Bogor. After four days of searching, rescue officials have recovered the bodies of six of the eight people who drowned following the collapse of a bamboo bridge they were using to cross the Cihideung River.

Zahra, 6, and Dini, 10, are still missing.

The search and rescue team temporary halted the search on Wednesday due to heavy rain.

The body of 5-year-old Ravi was found one kilometer away from the site of the accident. Search coordinator Budi Aksomo said the child’s family had identified Ravi’s body by his clothing.

The body of Umamah, the first victim found, was recovered from the Cihideung River when the bridge in Cibanteng village collapsed on Sunday morning. A resident who was fishing in the river found the body of Septia Rizki the following day about 20 kilometers from the bridge.

Ma’mur, the head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), had falsely announced on Monday that officials had found Ravi. He later corrected the information and said the body belonged to Maesaroh, also known as Maya.

Another victim’s body was misidentified on Tuesday, and Ma’mur acknowledged that the condition of the bodies were so bad that it was difficult to identify them.

Rescue officials deployed 500 people from a joint team to search for the missing people. Iwan Firdaus, chief of the local branch of Basarnas, said the enormity of the ground to be covered in the search and rescue efforts led authorities in Bogor to deploy 300 more volunteers, bringing the number of people involved to 500.

Accident survivor Abdul Fatah, 60, of told authorities earlier that there were 23 people on the bridge when it collapsed, with 15 managing to swim to safety.

So far, the bodies of Umamah, 35; Septia Rizki Alamsyah, 10; Maesaroh, 10; Nur Fajar Maulinda, 9; Reska, also known as Eka, 9; and Ravi, 5, have been recovered.

Bogor Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Santoso said police had ruled out negligence in the 15-meter long bamboo bridge’s collapse. It had been constructed by residents in 2004 and maintained regularly.
