During the reformation era the government threatened to enact the death penalty for food hoarding calling it subversive activity. Now what is more subversive than stealing billions of Rupiah that could have gone towards infrastructure and social help for the poor. These guys should be tried under different laws. Someone get 5 years for stealing a duck worth 5$ then by figuring geometrically 2.5 million $ is worth 2.5 million years in jail !!!

BrahmaPutra. Yes that how it is here and always was: steal a chicken and go to jail and stay there, steal a large amount of money and walk and enjoy. As you said earlier: Opposite Land.

___

It was like this, it is like this and it will stay like this, simple because with that kind of money you can buy ANYTHING you want here.

so 2,5 years in jail for 2,5 billion that is not a bad payday. this case can only encourage corruptors to continue their graft. Even the odds of actually getting convicted are pretty low, so this says to them " go on get it while you can. if you get caught you will get a slap on the wrist and get to keep the money. "

way to go Indonesia may your law enforcement find more punks, duck thief's and pocket knife wielding rescue workers to arrest. that will keep the focus off these big shots getting away with robbing the country blind as we look upon with exasperation .

How come he was not forced to give back the money he was convicted of stealing ? In the west it is usually illegal to profit from crimes. why has this guy been allowed to escape with the loot ? does his so called good behavior not extend to returning the money he stole. in any other country he would at least serve out his sentence if he refused to give back the loot. Guess if he had stolen a duck he would be in more dire straits, seems you get the full sentence for poultry theft...

"Danny, who was governor from 2003 to 2004, was greeted by his wife and children, Golkar Party politicians and representatives from the Bandung chapter of the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI). "

How sick is that. The guy is a friggin hero.

Bandung. Former West Java Governor Danny Setiawan was paroled on Friday after serving two-thirds of a four-year prison sentence in a corruption case that cost the Indonesian government more than $5 million.

Danny, who was governor from 2003 to 2004, was greeted by his wife and children, Golkar Party politicians and representatives from the Bandung chapter of the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI).

Danny told reporters waiting outside the prison that he was in good health and that he planned to spend some time alone following his release. “I need to reassess myself. To find some peace,” he said.

Dewa Putu Gede, the warden at Sukamiskin Prison, located near Bandung, said the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights issued Danny’s parole letter at the end of last month.

“He has served two-thirds of his sentence,” he said. “His good behavior in prison was taken into consideration and there are people who have guaranteed he will meet the terms of his parole.

“There are 14 requirements needed to be eligible for parole and he has met them all.”

The Anti-Corruption Court found Danny guilty of misappropriating state funds in June 2009 and sentenced him to four years in prison. He served two years and three-and-a-half months.

He was convicted of bypassing the tender process and appointing Istana Sarana Raya to provide fire trucks for the province and Setiajaya Mobilindo to provide fire trucks and ambulances.

The state lost up to Rp 50 billion ($5.6 million) as a result of the illegal procurements.

While on parole, Danny officially remains a convict and will be required to report regularly to the authorities.

He will also have to obtain a special permit from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights if he want to travel overseas.

“If he is charged with a new crime, his parole will be revoked,” Dewa said.

The disgraced politician said he remained committed to the development of West Java and was ready to help however he could after catching up on the current situation.

“Together with the people of West Java, I intend to help develop the area,” he said.

Two other officials from the West Java administration — Wahyu Kurniawan and Ijudin Budiyana — were convicted in the case and were each sentenced to four years in prison and fined Rp 200 million.

Wahyu, who was head of the administration’s procurement division, is scheduled to be released on Friday. Ijudin, who was the head of the development program division, is due to be released on March 2.

According to the Anti-Corruption Court in 2009, Danny made Rp 2.5 billion from the illegal procurement, while Wahyu and Ijudin pocketed Rp 1.6 billion and Rp 385 million, respectively.
