Four people involved in prisoner switcheroo in Bojonegoro, East Java, have been sentenced to jail time on Monday.

The four individuals conspired to have one woman, Karni, serve jail time in place of another, Kasiyem, who was found guilty of illegally selling government-subsidized fertilizer.

Hasnomo, the lawyer responsible for the treachery, was slapped with a seven-month sentence.

"The acts of the suspect, as a lawyer, has tainted the reputation of law enforcement officials and have disillusioned the public and its belief in the law and judicial system," said chairing judge I Nyoman Wiguna.

Also receiving seven-month sentences were Atmari, the prison guard who forged the official document that facilitated the prisoner swap, and Widodo Priyono, the civil servant who released Kasiyem from prison.

Angga bin Abdullah, a local resident of Ngringinrejo, was given a six-month sentence for his role in looking for Kasiyem's replacement.

The Karni-Kasiyem prisoner swap case in the Bojonegoro prison was uncovered at the end of last year.

The plot unraveled after one of Kasiyem's neighbors went to visit her in jail and was presented with a different person.

After further investigation by the prison guards, it was found that Karni was paid Rp. 8 million to serve Kasiyem's prison sentence.
