Jakarta. It is said that imitation is the sincerest flattery but it appears that that is not the case with the Islamic Destroyers Front.

The individual or group, known in Indonesian as Front Perusak Islam (FPI), is a tongue-in-cheek poke at Indonesia’s hard-line Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), who continue to make headlines for their self-appointed role as upholders of the Islamic values of an allegedly secular nation.

Writing on Twitter, @FPIYeah wrote that “our action to arrest” the former editor of the Indonesian edition of Playboy magazine, Erwin Arnada, was “cool.”

“It’s proof that we can step over the National Police. Viva us!”

FPIYeah has already attracted more than 20,000 followers on the social networking Web site, counting among its fans celebrities such as comedian Tika Panggabean.

Even the brief bio of the twitter account takes a shot at the FPI, the real one, saying that, “If we can memorize, why should we use common sense.”

The tweets take a similar tone.

“Don’t try to be righteous. Try to ‘look’ righteous. It’s easier and faster to gain respect in the world,” one tweet read.

“Any religions must be practiced with blind fanaticism. It’s better to get into heaven than respecting one another,” read another.

There is intense speculation as to the identity or identities of those behind the tweets, but speculation that it was movie director Joko Anwar were denied by FPIYeah, which wrote, “We’re not him. We’re not as smart as him.”

Joko Anwar has tweeted The Jakarta Globe saying that he is not the person behind @FPIYeah.

"I'm not @FPIYeah. I'm not that provocative. I only twit unyu-unyu [a popular Indonesian twitter community expression] love tweets. ;)" he wrote.

Hewlett Packard Computing Lab recently listed Joko as the world’s No. 2 most influential twitter user in the world behind Hollywood celebrity Ashton Kutcher.

The Islamic Defenders Front also has an official Twitter account @FPI_online but it seems they are no fans of their much more popular imitators.

“We are blocked by FPI_online! Hahaha,” @FPIYeah tweeted.
