If Islam were truly the "religion of peace" (as what we have always heard), don't you think that these violence and killings are obviously contradicting to its teaching? If so, aren't they blasphemy to Islam?

There's only one truth, no contradiction. So, what is the true Islam?!

Islam does not teach to hate and kill. It doesn't endorse mob violence. Islam teaches one to respect the people of the book, meaning Christians and Jews. These morons don't have a clue about what it means to be a Muslim. But at any rate, the State must get tough with anyone who perpetuates mob violence and commits hate crimes. If not Indonesia will turn into the Middle East.

@forgetyourself - sorry to inform you but those thugs ARE the real muslims. The 'moderates' are diluting the teaching (most of them have NEVER read the quran) and ignoring or are ignorant of the calls to violence against non-muslims that are rampant throughout the quran... Try reading it yourself!

Sad comments from pribumi. Must be so proud that 1500 cretins managed to kill four people.

Daily religious violence. When is it ever going to end. When hell freezes over??

Bring on the military and Densus 88 and kick them all to kingdom come. Leave us all to live in peace. Or better yet send them to the turmoil center of the Middle East. These people would love to put up a fight and stir up none sense.

Violence has broken out in the Central Java town of Temanggung after a man was jailed for five years for insulting Islam, according to reports.

The mob considered that the sentence imposed on Jakarta man Antonius Bawengan, 58, was too light.

Central Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Edward Aritonang was quoted by Detik.com as saying the sentence was in line with the prosecution’s demands and was the maximum allowable under the law.

“But the crowd demanded a death sentence and they got angry,” he said.

Edward said the mob tipped over a police truck parked outside the court.

Police were filmed in pitch battles with protesters.

Edward said police were attempting to deal with the mob in “a persuasive way” because the case related to religion.

“Anyone will be angry when it comes to religion but we try to understand. The judge has also given the maximum sentence,” he said.

Antonius had been evacuated to Semerang and the situation was calming, Edward said.

The case started in October 2010 when Antonius, a resident of Kebon Jeruk in West Jakarta, stayed at his relative’s house in Kranggan district, Temanggung. During his stay, he allegedly distributed books and flyers that contained statements that insulted Islam.

He was immediately taken into custody.
