Now one wonders whose money it was anyway in the first place. Not Gayus's money that's clear - but I still don't comprehend why his personal assets as well as the assets of his wife (who was for sure a co-conspirator and I also wonder if she still holding her government job after revelations that she did not show up for work) and probably of some other relatives with dubious wealth assets.

So how is it even remotely possible that he has STILL access to money ( and it seems that there is more to get) when he is already convicted of corruption. It's actually a small price to pay if embezzlers see (at least officially) the inside of a cell for a certain period of time and then are still able to keep their stolen money.

One can't help but wonder whether this 'reported happening' is simply a case of easy come, easy go OR an effort to put Rp4 billion beyond the reach of the legal system.

This fellow is not in prison. He has merely moved to a new office.

Indonesian justice, law and order - and those who administer them - you are a disgusting bunch of venal louts! I think of dog faeces when I think of these people - and that's doing an injustice to dog faeces.

This fellow ought to be the pin up boy for Viagra - he has single handedly f.....d not only his wife - but the entire country.

Indonesia is his whore - but as one can only expect in this country that wouldn't know its bum from it's head - in this case - it is the whore who pays for the privilege of being done over by this criminal.

This man does the things he does because he is being protected and allowed to do them.

And meanwhile the police and others are doing everything possible to destroy the KPK.

it's a ****ing sham that this man even has 4 billion left to lose... You'd think after a case of that magnitude, the state would strip Gayus of all his wealth...

High-profile graft convict Gayus Halomoan Tambunan has reportedly lost Rp 4 billion ($460,000) after being deceived by a fellow inmate who claimed he could multiply the fortune.

Gayus, a former tax official who was prosecuted after authorities found suspicious bank accounts worth Rp 28 billion in his name, was fleeced by Muntaha at the Cipinang State Penitentiary in East Jakarta, an official at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights said on condition of anonymity. Muntaha also took money from two other inmates.

There are unconfirmed reports that police learned about the incident after Gayus failed to receive any return after five months.

“We haven’t received a case filed by Gayus so far. Any incoming report will be reviewed according to procedures,” said Sutarman, the police’s chief of detectives.

In a separate development, prosecutors have recommended that Gayus’s former boss and ally in the fraud case be sentenced to four years in prison and pay a fine of Rp 200 million for abuse of power that led to state losses.

“Prosecutors concluded that the defendant, Bambang Heru Ismiarso, was guilty of corruption along with several others,” prosecutor Subkhan told the court.

Bambang, 39, was director of appeals at the Directorate General of Taxation, where Gayus worked.

Bambang was convicted of corruption for his handling of a Rp 609 million tax payment in 2004 to Surya Alam Tunggal, an East Java-based seafood company.

The company had requested a refund based on claims the tax payment was miscalculated. Bambang and his tax office team approved the request.

“Bambang overlooked several taxation regulations and his decision to approve the claim was a conscious act designed to benefit Surya Alam Tunggal,” Subkhan said.

Gayus himself was sentenced to 12 years for his involvement in the scandal.
