I think this is a good thing. A fantastic revenue earner for th country if managed properly. I would propose a special penitentiary for the rich and famous only. They will be provided with various amenities within the facilities as long as they are willing to pay for them. Excursion outside would also be charged, like tours provided by hotels.

I envision three differnt blocks. A 3 Star, 4 Star and 5 Star blocks respectively. All revenue will go direct to the Government's Treasury.

Eradicating Corruption is nothing but a big joke in Indonesia. The Government, the Judges, the attorneys, the Police, the Jailers all can be bought. It's free for all. What lessons are there to be learned for corruptors and would be corruptors only get a slap on the hand when found guilty and the be allowed to go home to all their ill-found riches. Cry Ibu Pertiwi!!!

This could happen only in Indonesia where money not only talks but shouts.

Jakarta, Indonesia. The suspended head of a police detention facility, facing charges of taking bribes in return for letting high-profile graft suspect Gayus Tambunan leave his cell, has admitted that two police officers in custody received similar treatment, a lawyer said on Friday.

Former chief detective Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji and Sr. Comr. Wiliardi Wizar were let out of their cells after giving “donations” for the care of Comr. Iwan Siswanto’s wife, according to his lawyer, Berlin Pandiangan. Iwan is chief warden at the jail at Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok.

Gayus allegedly bribed Iwan and at least eight of his subordinates in return for being allowed to leave his cell at will.

“My client also gave Susno and Williardi the privilege to leave their cells,” said Berlin.

Susno is a suspect in two bribery cases, while Wilardi has been convicted for his role in the murder of Nasrudin Zulkarnaen, a state company executive, at the behest of former antigraft czar Antasari Azhar.

Berlin said Susno and Wiliardi had each given Iwan Rp 10 million ($1,120), but insisted they were not paying for freedom.

“They were not bribes. Their hearts were touched when Iwan told them about his sick wife.”

Berlin also quoted Iwan as saying that Susno and Wiliardi did not leave their detention cells as often as Gayus did.

Susno, speaking from the sidelines of his graft trial at the South Jakarta District Court last week, had lashed out at “slanderous” allegations that he had been allowed to leave his cell.

Berlin also revealed that his client had received a total of Rp 386 million ($43,000) from Gayus since July.

Meanwhile, a police source told the Jakarta Globe that an investigator had been sent to Bali on Friday to find out whether a man attending a tennis tournament there on Nov. 5 was in fact Gayus. The Globe photographed a man in attendance at the event who closely resembled the suspect.

He also said police would coordinate with security at the Westin Resort Nusa Dua, the hotel were Gayus and his familiy allegedly stayed, and a telecom who reportedly provided cellphone service to Gayus.

“Hopefully we will obtain an answer on Monday,” he said, adding that a forensic expert was also trying to ascertain whether the man in the photo was Gayus.

Another police source said that Gayus’s wife, Milana Anggreini, was questioned by police investigators on Friday.

“She only said that Gayus had stayed in his house and never went out. She declined to comment when asked whether her husband had bribed the police officers,” the source said.

National Police deputy spokesman Brig. Gen. Ketut Untung Yoga confirmed that police investigators would be sent to Bali.

Gayus is awaiting trial on charges on graft and bribing police and prosecutors to win an acquittal in an embezzlement case.
