434107I have the feeling that Gayus is just political theater, and had his rank been a few pay-grades higher, nothing would have come of this. His failing wasn't being corrupt, but rather being so good at being corrupt that he managed to overshoot the acceptable level of graft for his position. He was foolish. He should have only taken smaller bribes until he became Pak Gayus and then gracefully eased into his graft-ridden sinecure.
Any news on investigations into Police Generals' bank accounts, Gayus' tax-evading customers, the bribers in the Miranda case, or the high-ranking police involved in the court-mafia that Gayus implicated?
Seems like this guy is being sacrificed but none of the big fish will fry.

Convicted briber Gayus Tambunan will soon stand trial for his numerous jaunts out of jail while he was supposed to be in remand last year, prosecutors said on Thursday.
The disgraced former tax official is charged with bribing prison guards to let him leave his cell for trips to Bali, Macau and Singapore, among other destinations, while he was being held on a separate bribery charge.
Noor Rachmad, a spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office, said the police dossier on the case was complete and a trial would follow soon.
“The trial will be held at the Bandung District Court,” he said. Because the alleged crime occurred at the police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) detention center in Depok, West Java, he said, the case will be tried in the provincial capital.
Noor said the police would soon hand Gayus, the evidence and the charge sheet to the prosecutors’ office in Bandung in preparation for the trial.
Gayus is charged with bribing Comr. Iwan Siswanto, then the chief warden at the Brimob detention center, and several other correctional officers in exchange for letting him out of the heavily guarded facility.
Iwan’s trial has already begun in Bandung, where he stands accused of taking Rp 264 million ($30,000) from Gayus and allowing the detainee to leave the jail on at least 68 separate occasions.
At the time, Gayus was supposed to be in custody pending an investigation into charges that he had bribed a judge, police investigators and witnesses in an embezzlement trial in early 2010 at the Tangerang District Court.
The embezzlement trial, in turn, stemmed from suspicion over Rp 28 billion found in his bank accounts. He was acquitted after prosecutors controversially dropped the more serious money-laundering charges and opted for a lesser embezzlement charge unrelated to the suspicious bank accounts.
His acquittal by the Tangerang court was brought to the public’s attention by Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji, the National Police’s former chief of detectives, who alleged that police officers had taken bribes from Gayus by acting as brokers in the case.
Susno’s surprise revelation prompted a new investigation by police and Gayus was tried for the second time at the end of 2010 at the South Jakarta District Court. In January this year, the court convicted Gayus of bribery and sentenced him to seven years in prison.
Susno, meanwhile, was charged with embezzlement and taking a bribe in two separate cases. He was convicted on both counts last month and sentenced to three and a half years in jail.
However, he insists the case against him was trumped up in retaliation for his blowing the whistle on corruption within the police force.
