387101I have a sneaking suspicion that the developer would manage to get its way, with or without IMB and AMDAL. Just what we need in Senayan, another mall to add to the polution and traffic jam.
The Jakarta Governor should reject the proposal to build a shopping mall in area of Taman Ria Senayan. There are too many shopping malls already in Jakarta. People needs a park to go to on Sunday to refresh themselves and families at low cost. A park would also function to reduce environmental pollution. The Governor shoud sometimes (if not all the times) think about and back the Jakarta people.

Cibitung, West Java. The central government on Wednesday agreed with the House of Representatives that no shopping center in the Taman Ria Senayan complex should be built until the developer passes the environmental impact analysis and secures a building permit.
“It is not true that [the government is] in disagreement with the House over this matter,” State Secretary Sudi Silalahi said on Wednesday.
“The complex has been leased out for 25 years. However, as it possesses no IMB [building permit] and has not passed Amdal [environmental analysis], there shall be no development in the area,” he said.
House members recently expressed anger over plans to build a mall in the Taman Ria Senayan complex, which is adjacent to the House of Representatives.
They have accused Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo of insensitivity toward the growing problems of traffic and reduced green spaces in the capital.
The House, the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) have agreed to draw up a new design for the House complex, stretching up to Taman Ria Senayan on the periphery of the existing site.
Recently, Bowo said the area had been rented for commercial purposes since the Suharto era, but that he personally supported the plan for the legislative complex to annex the area and keep it green.
Sudi denied on Wednesday that the State Secretariat had given its approval for the mall to be developed.
“There is no such thing, we had an agreement in the past that if they could not meet the requirements, it could not be done without an IMB and Amdal.”
Sudi said that the location should be a green area.
“It will be good if it could function as lungs for the city,” he said. Asked whether it would become a city park, he said that might be the best option.
Currently, only 9.6 percent of Jakarta’s 665 kilometers is classified as green space.
Meanwhile, Hari Sasongko Kushadi, the city’s head of Building Monitoring and Control Agency, said on Wednesday that no building work was underway yet at the complex.
“At the moment they are just demolishing the old buildings. No construction has started yet,” he said.
Hari added that although developer PT Ariobimo Laguna Perkasa had requested a building permit to start working on the foundation, the environmental impact analysis had yet to be issued.
“In relation to the permit to build on the area, I don’t know, because the papers have not reached my desk yet, but we have received the technical proposal and now we are waiting for the Amdal,” he said.
