Metro TV’s morning ‘Headline News’ program has been ordered off the Indonesian airwaves for a week after it accidentally broadcast snippets of a pornographic movie.
The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) imposed the sanction, which took effect on Friday morning, after the news station featured scenes from a blue movie in a news package on an Internet cafe raid in Trenggalek, East Java, on June 14.
The offending scene showed a close up of a computer screen displaying graphic images.
The station is also required to broadcast apologies three times a day for three days. The station is required to pledge that it will not violate broadcast standards again.
KPI deputy chairwoman Muthmainah said it had concluded that the broadcasting of the pornographic film clips was an information-techology “mistake.”
Makroen Sanjaya, the station’s deputy news editor, said it the channel realized it had made a mistake.
“We have undertaken internal consolidation, sanctions and taken corrective action,” Makroen said.
The station has previously claimed the error and broadcast of the “toxic content” was IT related because the program’s producer had claimed to have edited the offending content out of the clip.
