Hundreds Rally Against Fact-Finding Team Recommendations in Jakarta
A crowd of around 700 people held a demonstration in Jakarta on Wednesday against the recommendations made by the fact-finding team tasked with investigating the scandal at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The anti-KPK demonstrators gathered outside Hotel Indonesia and demanded the police and Attorney General’s Office continue the legal process against commission deputy chairmen Chandra M Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto.
The rally crowd also carried a poster of the fact-finding team’s leader, Adnan Buyung Nasution, with the words “Legal Mafia” written on it.
One participant said Bibit and Chandra’s case must be solved according to legal procedures and it could not be terminated by the team.
The rally caused traffic delays around Jalan MH Thamrin because the demonstrators parked buses and motorbikes in front of Hotel Mandarin.
Some witnesses reported that a number of people said that they had been paid money to attend the rally.
Earlier on Wednesday, a rally supporting the KPK took place in front the organization’s headquarters on Jalan Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.

10:41 PM November 18, 2009Great! Demonstrate for money! Please tell me how to get this job, I'm really short on cash now. For a special fee I will bring along several hundred of my mates too. If I bring my own loudspeaker do I get paid more? Should I organize to burn some old tyres? What shuld my slogan be? How about "Keep criminals in the police!" Takes one to recognize one doesn't it? We will be safer if we have more criminals in high jobs because they will be able to stop the smaller crimes.
