Indecisive Parties Booed and Slurred as 'Transvestites' at Century Plenary

At least two factions in the House of Representatives were booed and labeled as “banci,” or transvestites, for not delivering a firm decision in the final plenary hearing into the Bank Century bailout scandal.

The two factions that failed to deliver a firm choice were the United Development Party (PPP) and the National Mandate Party (PAN).

People in the gallery and some members of the House called some of the members of the factions “banci” or “transvestites.” The interjections stopped but the plenary room them became even more noisy as those in attendance made sly comments and booed.

Not only did lawmakers heckle the faction spokesmen who were reading their final conclusions, they also shouted out irrelevant remarks.

“Speaker, we’re hungry!,” shouted one lawmaker when the United Development Party spokesman was speaking on the podium. Another shouted “PPP, you’re transvestites!,” when the PPP declined to clearly state which option they had chosen. Shouts of “Viva Prabowo” erupted when Gerindra announced they had chosen option C.

What clowns! I wish they were laughing stock! Only the outcome will be known to most of the world. Not to mention that most of the world do not know the demonstrators outside are paid. They cannot imagine and do not know. What a farce...This elite club should be outed ASAP. I've generally always said SBY was the best thing to happen to this country in a long time, but even that is now not sure to me anymore. I wonder if those "politicians" ever read real newspapers anyway, besides "Red (Green) Light"

The ones who were hungry should just eat the transvestites. The parliament is nearing the cannibalism stage anyway.

i think transvesties still have the Guts when they are facing the choice... the politicians who don't have the true choice is worse than transvesties..

It was of course predictable that these buffoons who make a pretense at running the country, who in reality couldn't run a stockless warung, shame the population and make Indonesia a laughing stock.

During the chaos of yesterdays performance, I could not help noticing how many obscenely obese men there were struggling to heave their excess blubber up and over podiums, something that is very rare in most of the population: One wonders why this is?

Sexist, intolerant, immature and frankly boorish attitudes and behaviour displayed by members of parliament and some in the public gallery. Its a worry that these clowns are running the country and have fans who support them. Indonesia still lags a long way behind other democracies. In other countries if anyone was foolish enough to make such homophobic comments in parliament they would have a lot of explaining to do to the 10% of the population who are gay and have the vote. Not to mention many others who don't denigrate people because of their sexual orientation. But then again, in Indonesia where basic human rights can't be taken for granted - well what do you expect?

What more buffoonery can we expect from the nation's intolerant, sexist, ignorant and ill-disciplined politicians?
