384374What is that non-sense? Recruiting "Indonesian" players in The Netherlands? Is that supposed to give pride to a nation? I think NOT!
No world cup for watching football?
Well there should be. ha ha
in the real world though a good coach, good management, good training and good facilities may present a bit of a problem though.
Better start pushing for that football watching world cup immediately
How many kids do you see kicking a ball in the streets? Or the parks? Sorry forgot - no parks... In other countries kids start playing with a ball at a young age. Here they sit and watch Sinetrons...
What SBY really means is that Indonesians love to WATCH football not play it.
Sorry but there is no world cup for WATCHING football!
dream on...
just try to manage the furious fans first
That's the populist speaking! Ever observed maniacal soccer fans in Jakarta? A shame and disaster!
One thing is true for many soccer fans here "The game is not just a sport.” It is rather a display of aggression and destruction!!!
In light of Indonesians’ fanatical appetite for World Cup action, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Monday that it was his sincere wish that the national football team would one day rise to among the best in Southeast Asia.
“Our nation has talent. We have the ability to be great. If there are no concrete steps taken on our part, nothing good can ever happen. Football requires not only a very good coach, but also good management, training, good facilities. The system must work,” Yudhoyono said.
“Let us try and fix this, because I have heard that our people love football so much in their hearts.
“So, when would Indonesia be able to compete strongly against other countries in Asia?”
Yudhoyono added that he was well aware that the game was not “just a sport.”
“It can trigger unity and nationalism in the people. My friend [German Chancellor] Angela Merkel flew to South Africa to support Germany. Germany is extraordinary. Their defense is great. Their offense was great. And they are all so tall, too.”
Yudhoyono said he was convinced he could raise the profile of the national team and the domestic league, and had staged a football congress in Malang in March.
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) continues to suffer under the leadership of Nurdin Halid.
Supporters of Persija Jakarta have staged many rallies outside the association’s headquarters, accusing it of fixing Super League matches and demanding that Nurdin step down.
He has also been criticized during his tenure for the repeated failures of the national team and the domestic league, perceived by most as badly managed.
Yudhoyono said that Indonesia was aiming to win the 2011 Southeast Asia Games football tournament in Palembang.
To this end, he urged the PSSI to recruit world-class football coaches to push the national team to the top.
The president said he would seek the advice on raising the nation’s game from Nurdin, Rita Subowo, president of the Indonesia National Sports Committee (KONI), and Youth and Sports Minister Andi Mallarangeng.
