Mataram. Indonesian has agreed to lift its more than two-year ban on sending migrant workers to Malaysia.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, speaking after a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Lombok Island on Thursday, said Indonesia would resume sending migrant workers (TKI) to the neighboring country on Dec. 1.

Razak said all outstanding issues had been settled.

Indonesia imposed the ban in mid-2009 after multiple cases of physical abuse in Malaysia, demanding greater protection for workers, including at least one day off, minimum payments and the right to retain their passports.

Cambodia is yet to lift a ban recently imposed following numerous complaints of abuse, in a move hailed by rights groups.

The story is developing.
