blightyboy. I just answered to putrimawar. I believe that W7W is for real, genuine, and I suggested therefore that he googles to find out more about W7W. The only strange thing (which is until now not clarified by the Ministry) is the W7W said it would cost USD10 mio to host the Nop 2011 event while Jero Wacik said it would cost USD45 mio.

He also said that the foundation was not fully acknowledged and accepted by the international community, unlike world-class event organizers such as FIFA or the International Olympic Committee.

What is he blabbering about??? If the Swiss-based organisation is not of world standard, why in the world did the ministry registered for the competition in the first place?????

its a good wheeze but the reality is its just a total cock up and a bag of lies by our minsiter - its PR neither Indonesia or 7W would want. All down to greed I think on our part

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism Ministry has alleged that New7Wonders Foundation, the organizer of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, is having problems finding a country willing to host an award ceremony for winners of the competition in November.

“I am asking the people of Indonesia to think clearly that there is something behind the organization’s attempt to 'force' Indonesia to host the announcement of the New7Wonders,” ministry official I Gde Pitana said.

The government is involved in a dispute with N7W after the organization removed the country as the Komodo National Park’s official backer in the competition

Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said last week that Indonesia would sue the organizers “to uphold Indonesia’s reputation.”

Todung Mulya Lubis, representing the ministry in the suit, said the Swiss-based foundation had acted unfairly in dropping the ministry as the park’s official supporter.

“It’s unfair because it was the ministry that first registered Komodo for the competition and signed the standard participation agreement,” Todung told the Jakarta Globe. “Therefore, we want them to reinstate the ministry as the official supporting organization.”

Pitana said to his knowledge the organizer had not found a country willing to host their announcement event.

“I haven’t heard if the organizer has found a host country for their November event after Indonesia backed out,” he said.

He also said that the foundation was not fully acknowledged and accepted by the international community, unlike world-class event organizers such as FIFA or the International Olympic Committee.

According to Pitana, Indonesia had previously been offered to host international events such as Bollywood’s Grammy Awards.

“We were offered to host Bollywood’s Grammy Award three years ago but the event needed Rp 7 billion ($690,000) so we had to say no. There are many other better ways to spend our budget,” he said.

“It’s not the first time we turned down an offer to host an event but it seems it’s only the New7Wonders that is ‘attacking’ us for it. Besides, they still have 28 other countries participating in the competition that can serve as a host.”
