Journalists protested outside the National Police headquarters on Monday during the private handover ceremony between ousted chief detective Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji and his successor Insp. Gen. Ito Sumardi.
The journalists accused the National Police of acting discriminatively because only four media organizations were allowed to cover the ceremony.
Arguments between reporters and the police officers took place in front of the Rupatama building where the closed ceremony was held. Previously, the police said the ceremony was an internal matter, but the reporters protested, saying handovers are always open to public.
The police relented and let reporters from four media organizations inside, which only sparked more protests.
Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji did not speak to the press when he arrived at the headquarters. He only smiled and promised to hold a press conference after the ceremony.
