The drama between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police was still dominating Indonesian newspaper headlines on Monday, more than a week and a half after the arrest of commission deputies Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah.

Koran Tempo’s headline on Monday was “Stop The Investigation” with a small box describing the gaps found by the fact finding team in the police’s investigation of KPK officials titled “The Oddities And Holes.” Their cartoon section on the front page pictured the National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri speaking to a loud speaker with DPR, the acronym for the House of Representatives, written on it. The caption read “It’s only a loud speaker....”

Kompas’ headline was “Antasari Convinced There Was No Bribery,” which referred to former KPK chairman Antasari Azhar’s statement to the fact finding team on Sunday in which he alleged that his testimony was developed by the police and became the background to charge the KPK deputies with alleged bribery. Kompas published more than ten stories about the KPK-Police conflict in Monday’s edition.

The Jakarta Globe’s headline was “Team of Eight Reaches Decision In KPK Case,” a story about the fact finding team’s plan to report the result of their investigation to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as early as Monday.

The Jakarta Post’s headline was “Not Enough Evidence to Charge KPK Leaders: Team” about the fact finding team’s conclusion that the police did not have enough evidence to charge KPK leaders with abuse of power, bribery or extortion.
