A 19-year-old woman from Sukabumi, West Java, reported her husband to the police, claiming that he “pimped” her out and forced her to sleep with hundreds of men for money.

Lia reported her husband Muchtar, 45, to Cibadak Police in Sukabumi for human trafficking and domestic violence. She claimed Muchtar had sold her to countless men since May 2009 when they got married. Her husband also forced her to marry Arab men for a short period of time, known as a “contractual marriage,” she said.

Lia told police she refused her husband’s orders at first but he threatened to divorce her and she would have to pay him Rp 15 million ($1500). A poor woman with little education, Lia said she didn’t have any choice except to obey her husband.

“I had to sleep with hundreds of men, he said I had to do that to earn my keep,” Lia told Metro TV on Thursday.

Muchtar said he sold his wife because he was unemployed. He admitted that he forced her to undertake the contractual marriages to get money for himself.

“For every contractual marriage, I got between Rp 2.5 million and Rp 4 million. I also sold my wife to sleazy men and used the money to support our lives,” he told police.

Cibadak Police Chief AKP Athena Rustandi said he had arrested two suspects, Muchtar and another man who acted as his accomplice. Both will be charged under Chapter 47 of Law No 23 on domestic violence and Chapter 506 of the Criminal Code about prostitution.
