Fasting is not exactly hard when you're forced to do it. It's meant to be about self-restraint but the brain dead artards in this country don't seem to understand that.

I'm very confused which govt official went over to Pakistan and thought 'hmm, Indonesia could do with being more like this. We simply don't have enough poverty, terrorism and violence'. Maybe it's some cunning plan to reduce the overpopulation problem.

This mayor is a disaster for his constituents. He should not mix religion and state, he has no right to sack someone for eating during ramadan, it is none of his business. Just an example of another politician using religion as a tool to gain popularity

I think marko1 just gave a good solution! ALL city employees should resign at once! This fellow is a complete moron who thinks he's omnipotent in his position and can do whatever he wants. Same as this fellow who wanted that all government employees wear shoes Made in Indonesia and said that the punishment for noncompliance is 50 sit ups or something similar.

And yes, how about non-Muslims? Do they have to do the same - just so they are not to disturb the moral or out of respect (or something similar). A real weirdo - how this people ever manage to get into high ranking positions is a miracle for me! And from which pocket are this 1 Million Rp "bounty" coming? His own? City treasury?

Another example of the [edit] awful leaders who are dragging this country over the cliff.

All this idiot is doing is sucking up to the extremists.

Mr. Mayor, how about the dismissal from the job for those who are found practicing corruption and bribery? I think that should be part of your job. Not this one.

Bengkulu. City employees who do not fast during Ramadan would be dismissed from their jobs, Bengkulu Mayor Ahmad Kanedi said on the first day of the holy month on Monday.

He also offered a Rp 1 million ($118) bounty to citizens to help catch administration officials eating in public.

“All civil servants who are found having lunch in public places such as restaurants during the fasting month this year will face the strongest possible sanction of dismissal from their jobs,” Ahmad Kanedi was quoted by state news agency Antara as saying.

He said any city administration official found to have broken the fast prematurely would be dismissed on the spot.

Antara did not report if the sanctions applied to non-Muslims.

Ahmad also called on the people to play an active role in helping the Bengkulu administration enforce discipline during the fasting month.

“I will present Rp 1 million to anyone who is able to find a civil servant eating in public places such as restaurants, market places and bus terminals,” Ahmad said.
