Indonesia's President to Make State Visit to Vietnam

Jakarta. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will make a state visit to Vietnam on Oct. 27 upon the invitation of Vietnam's President Nguyen Minh Triet, Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said.

"The visit will be significant for increasing bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields. As a country that is continuing to develop and improve its role in the region, and the world, Vietnam is an important partner of Indonesia," he said in a written statement on Saturday.

The visit will also to mark the 55th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations, said Faizasyah.

He said the visit would focus on efforts to increase cooperation in the fields of politics, security, law, economy and tourism.
 
"Besides discussing bilateral issues the two heads of state would also discuss regional and international issues of concern to the two countries," he said.
 
During his visit, President Yudhoyono is scheduled to meet with the chairman of the Vietnamese State Council, the secretary general of the Vietnam Communist Party, the Vietnamese prime minister and the head of Vietnam's Indonesia Friendship Association.

After the state visit, President Yudhoyono will attend the 17th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) from Oct. 28 to 30.

At the summit, Vietnam is scheduled to hand over the rotating leadership of the organization to Indonesia.

Other Asean member countries are Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.

President Yudhoyono is scheduled to return home on Oct. 31.
