@kesiangan: There was, but the moratorium's over - ended when it became known that the new Blue Eyes hotel (if you know Bali) currently under construction is owned by the Governor.

Wasn't there a moratorium on building new hotels in Bali?

An investigation by prosecutors in Bali has concluded that a luxury hotel being built in South Kuta does not belong to graft fugitive Djoko Sugiarto Tjandra and therefore does not break any regulations.

A.F. Dharmawan, the provincial chief prosecutor, said on Wednesday that there were “no problems or violations with regard to the hotel’s documents or permits.”

“Nor did we find any current link to Djoko Tjandra,” he said.

The controversy surrounding the under-construction Hotel Mulia was sparked when provincial legislators carrying out checks on zoning violations found that the hotel was owned by a company linked to the fugitive.

District authorities and the Attorney General’s Office had already dismissed the finding, saying the hotel’s ownership had changed hands since the initial permit was issued.

Djoko fled the country in 2009, on the eve of his conviction for embezzling Rp 586 billion ($66 million) in bailout funds for his bank, the now-defunct Bank Bali.
