A friend of mine is applying for an IMB (building permit). Six uniformed government officers turned up at his place. One of them filled in a form, badly, they pocketed a fat tip, and left. 10 minutes max. Couldn't stay longer as they had a busy day ahead of them.

You just gotta love em!

I thought all jobs in the administration of Indonesia are fake.

Presumably this implies that a 'job offer' involves a bribe or payment - which is still a bribe.

Where I come from you get a job in th public service, a place in the police force, the military, in fact any job in the country by making an application - and if you pass the exam or fulfil the requirements - you get the position. And no money changes hands. That's why, generally the right people and the brightest people are in those jobs.

Too much to expect here. You see - it's common sense and fair.

As I said - too much to expect here.

The Jakarta administration warned the public on Wednesday to be on the alert for fraudulent offers for jobs in the bureaucracy, pointing out that there was currently a freeze on hiring new civil servants.

Budihastuti, the head of the city’s human resources department, said the freeze was imposed early last year and meant the city was not hiring any new employees.

“So if you receive an offer of a job in the civil service, be aware that it is a con,” she said.
