Ok sorry to have to say this but good riddance this Mbah is now gone. No need to lose more lives to save a stubborn old man.

Jakarta. An editor of news portal Vivanews.com is one among 25 people who died in Kinahrejo village in Sleman, Yogyakarta, about 4 kilometers from the peak of active volcano Mount Merapi, which erupted on Tuesday.

The body of Yuniawan Wahyu Nuhroho, also known as Wawan, was taken by his family from the Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. His funeral is scheduled for this afternoon. He is to be buried in his hometown of Ambarawa, Central Java.

His body was found at the house of the volcano’s spiritual gatekeeper, Mbah Marijan (Grandfather Marijan), who was also one of the casualties. Locals believe that the gatekeeper, usually an elderly person, has the power to communicate with the spirits of the volcano.

Wawan was there to persuade Mbah Marijan to evacuate and stay at the shelter, according to his colleague Kinaransih. She said that the last time she met Wawan was after he landed in Yogyakarta on Tuesday evening.

“He sent me an SMS text saying that he had met with Mbah Maridjan and he was waiting for Mbah Maridjan to finish praying. He was trying to persuade him to evacuate to the shelter,” she told Vivanews.

Mbah Maridjan's relative, Agus Wiyarto, said Wawan had a close relationship with Mbah Maridjan.

“We had a chat yesterday and he said he would come home on Wednesday afternoon to meet with his wife and children in Ambarawa,” Agus said.
