The Judicial Commission has requested a copy of Antasari Azhar’s verdict from the South Jakarta Court on Wednesday to review the use of evidence in the judge’s consideration.

The commission chairman Busyro Muqoddas said that the letter to the court mentioned the urgency of having a copy for review as soon as possible.

“We requested the court to send it to us as soon as possible,” Busyro told Metro TV.

He said that Antasari’s verdict had sparked public controversy.

“Therefore the court must respond swiftly, because it has affected their credibility,” he said.

Busyro had also prepared a team to review the verdict, but he promised the team would not touch judicial affairs. The team will only review the application of the code of ethics regarding procedural law, “including the use of evidence in the judge’s consideration,” he added.

Antasari Azhar was sentenced to 18 years in prison last Thursday for his role in the premeditated murder of state enterprise’s director Nasrudin Zulkarnaen. Other defendents included former South Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comsr. Wiliardi Wizar, who received 12 years jail, media magnate Sigid Haryo Wibisono, sentenced to 15 years, and businessman Jerry Hermawan Lo, who faces five years behind bars.
