Spanish singer Julio Iglesias is set to perform for his Indonesian fans in a concert at the Ritz Carlton Pacific Place in Jakarta on Dec. 4.
Iglesias said that although he had been to Indonesia many times — mostly as a tourist — he was excited to make a return here.
“I have been there many times, maybe 40 to 50 times, mostly visiting Bali for holidays. I love Indonesia and its cultures, and I can even speak a little Bahasa [Indonesia],” Iglesias told the Jakarta Globe in a telephone interview on Monday.
Iglesias, 68, has held a number of concerts in Indonesia in the last four years. He has also collaborated with a number of Indonesian singers and musicians, including Andre Hehanusa and Anggun C. Sasmi.
With Anggun, Iglesias performed and recorded a new version of his well-known duet with Diana Ross, “All of You,” in 2006. The most famous songs among his fans in the country include “When I Need You” and “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before.”
Iglesias, who now lives in Miami with his Dutch wife Miranda, has sold more than 350 million copies of his 79 albums released worldwide in his 43-year career and is one of the top 15 best-selling musical artists of all time.
The international star has a repertoire that is at least as broad as his fan and audience base but is better known for his romantic and melancholic ballads.
“Julio Iglesias — Live in Jakarta” is a joint presentation by BeritaSatu Media Holdings, which includes the Jakarta Globe, and Java Festival Production.
Tickets can be purchased through Ibu Dibyo (021) 319 31178, Raja Karcis (021) 828 2137 or Estubzi (021) 529 00828, any Disctarra & Societie outlet or at www.thejakartaglobe.com/julioiglesias.
