Two members of pop music band Kangen were taken to the Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday in preparation for their trial for alleged possession of drugs.

Lead vocalist Andika Mahesa and guitarist Barry Alfarizy are accused of possessing 40 grams of marijuana.

The case from the National Narcotics Agency will be forwarded to the East Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office to prepare the indictment, AGO spokesman Noor Rachmad said.

The suspects were detained for another 20 days at Cipinang prison in East Jakarta.

Juan Ferry, a lawyer for the suspects, said he expected his clients to be placed in a rehabilitation program instead of being sentenced like criminals.

“According to the anti-drug law, rehabilitation is part of the punishment,” he said. “And we hope that after two or three months of rehabilitation, Andika will be released.”

The pair face up to two years in jail if convicted.
